[origin: WO2009135241A2] The invention relates to a paper dispenser which comprises a receiving compartment (16) for a dispenser roll (17), a transport path (11) leading from above into the receiving compartment (16), a hold position for a spare roll (13) being defined in said transport path by a blocking means (9), and a transfer device for the paper of the spare roll (13) once the paper of the dispenser roll (17) is used up. The width (B) of the receiving compartment (16) is smaller than the diameter of the spare roll (13), and a sensor element (15) for the diameter of the spare roll (13) releases the blocking means (9) not before the diameter of the spare roll (13) has been reduced to the width (B) of the receiving compartment (16).
