The dishwasher (1) has a program control device (19) for controlling a wash cycle of a selected dishwashing program for cleaning dishes. The control device activates a wash program for providing supply of hot water (WW) from an external hot water supply (WA) during partial wash cycle of a wash cycle is activated, in one operating mode. The control device activates another wash program for providing supply of cold water (KW) from an external cold water supply (KA) only during another partial wash cycle of the wash cycle, in another operating mode. An independent claim is also included for a method for controlling a wash cycle of a dishwasher.

Vorgeschlagen wird eine Geschirrspülmaschine, insbesondere eine Haushaltsgeschirrspülmaschine (1), mit einer Steuereinrichtung (2) zur Steuerung der Geschirrspülmaschine (1) und mit mindestens einem durch die Steuereinrichtung (2) steuerbaren Wasserzulauf (12) zur Aufnahme von Wasser, der zum Verbinden mit einer externen Wasserversorgung (WV) vorgesehen ist, wobei die Steuereinrichtung (2) zur automatischen Steuerung einer Überwachungssequenz (UES) ausgebildet ist, bei der eine Überwachung eines oder mehrerer Grenzwerte (G OA , G OW , G UW ) für eine Temperatur (T W ) des von der mit dem steuerbaren Wasserzulauf (12) verbundenen externen Wasserversorgung (WV) bereitgestellten Wassers erfolgt.
