[origin: EP2305967A1] The engine (1) has a hydraulic valve clearance compensation mechanism (11) provided for exhaust valves (3, 4) for supplying oil to an oil supply channel (9). A control channel (26) is formed between a hydraulic valve control unit (25) and the mechanism for supplying the oil to the hydraulic valve control unit. The control channel is closed by a closure element (40) i.e. control piston (27), for compensating valve clearance of the exhaust valves. A counter-holder (45) i.e. piston-cylinder unit, adjusts a limit stop (44) to a position of the hydraulic valve clearance compensation mechanism.
