[origin: EP2305968A1] The engine (1) has a counter-holder (53) formed as a hydraulic piston-cylinder unit to furnish a stop part (52) for a valve bridge (5). A hydraulic valve lash compensation mechanism (11) for an exhaust valve (3) is arranged between a rocker arm (6) and the valve bridge and connected to an oil feed channel (9) for supplying oil. A control channel (41) is connected to the oil feed channel to feed oil to a hydraulic valve control unit that is closed by a closure element (48) to compensate for valve lash of the exhaust valve. The counter-holder adapts the stop part to a position of the mechanism.
