[origin: WO2010018097A1] The invention relates to an apparatus for controlling a field device (F1) which is linked into a radio network for automation engineering, wherein the field device (F1) is fitted with a communication interface (KS), wherein a wireless adaptor (WA) is connected to the communication interface (KS) of the field device (F1) by means of a connecting line (VL), wherein the wireless adaptor (WA) has an associated first supply unit (VE1), and wherein the wireless adaptor (WA) supplies the field device (F1) with electrical power via the connecting line (VL) and the communication interface (KS), wherein a control unit (BE) is provided which has a second supply unit (VE2) and which can be connected to the connecting line (VL) between a field device (F1) and wireless adaptor (WA) for the purpose of controlling the field device (F1), and wherein a switch (S) is provided which interrupts the supply of power to the field device (F1) via the wireless adaptor (WA) and activates the second supply unit (VE2) if a control operation needs to be performed or is performed on the field device (F1), so that the field device (F1) is supplied with power by means of the control unit (BE) during the control operation.
