[origin: WO2010006799A1] In order for it to be possible for water to be cleaned straightforwardly at the site of an end consumer, the invention specifies an apparatus for treating water (170), having a hollow body (250), which can be connected to a water-supply line and a water-discharge line, and having a substantially cylindrical body (230) which is accommodated in the hollow body (250) and has an outer lateral surface (315), wherein the lateral surface has a helical water-channelling arrangement (311) for channelling at least some of the water (170), with an inflow (314) in a water-supply region (235) of the cylindrical body (230), for directing the water (170) into the water-channelling arrangement (311), and with an outflow (313) in a water-discharge region (236) of the cylindrical body (230), for discharging the water (170).
