[origin: EP2322290A2] The device (10) has a buffer device (30) arranged above an intermediate storage (60) such that a set of articles (20a) among articles (20) in buffer storage positions (40, 40a) is dropped into an intermediate storage position (70a). Collecting containers (80, 80b) are inactive during a sorting operation. The containers are arranged below the storage such that allocation of the articles at the individual inactive containers is taken place by movement of the intermediate storage positions or the articles in the intermediate storage positions are dropped into one of the inactive containers. An independent claim is also included for a method for sorting articles.
