Abstract (en)
[origin: WO2010025891A1] The invention relates to a mortar grenade (1) having a peripheral annular recess (5), in which a sealing ring (6) made of an elastic material is housed, said sealing ring expanding when firing the mortar grenade (1) from a mortar by applying propellant gases and being pressed against the inner surface of the gun barrel of the mortar. In order to prevent the formation of an air cushion on the rear side in the mortar barrel during loading of the mortar grenade (1) and also to ensure a defined expansion of the sealing ring (6) when firing the mortar grenade (1), according to the invention the sealing ring (6) is stabilized by an annular element (9). For this purpose, the annular element (9) is made of a material that is selected such that the annular element (9) keeps the sealing ring (6) in a resting position when loading the mortar grenade (1) such that the mortar grenade (1) can drop freely into the gun barrel. The annular element (9) however does not, or not significantly, prevent the expansion of the sealing ring (6) during firing of the mortar grenade (1).
