[origin: WO2010016083A1] The present invention provides for the use of mature adipocytes isolated from the adipose tissue as multipotent cells in the regenerative medicine. The mature adipocytes isolated from the adipose tissue have been characterized before and after implant in the tissue of a recipient animal, showing a considerable plasticity in transdifferentiating into cell lines of a different nature than the original one as a response to suitable environmental stimuli.
