Abstract (en)

[origin: WO2007110371A1] The invention relates to a surgical sealing element, in particular for a trocar and/or for sealing the shafts of elongate surgical instruments during insertion into a human or animal body, wherein the sealing element defines a longitudinal axis, is provided with an opening of variable diameter which is oriented transverse or substantially transverse to the longitudinal axis and through which an instrument can be guided, and comprises an annular closed flexible wall, wherein the wall has first and second in each case inherently closed edges, and wherein the first edge delimits the opening. In order to improve the surgical sealing element such that, regardless of the diameter of its instrument shaft, all currently available instruments can be reliably sealed, it is proposed that the wall can be folded in an undulated shape and, in a sealing positon, is folded without kinks in an undulated shape, and with fold lines extending in the direction of the first edge, such that the first edge defines an undulating line that lies completely on a cylinder surface.
