[origin: WO2010028626A1] The invention relates to a method and to an apparatus for determining a driving strategy as information for the driver of a motor vehicle, wherein particularly local information relating to other motor vehicles, in particular those driving ahead, is detected by a receiver unit and, based on said local information, information derived for the motor vehicle driver is provided. In order to create a possibility to improve traffic flow and, at the same time, lower fuel consumption and reduce travel times and the risk of accidents, the provision of information comprises at least one action recommendation for a recommended speed. In this way, for the first time the motor vehicle driver is provided with an individual action recommendation for a recommended speed which is not based, for example, on a blanket observation of the traffic situation, but which is derived from the detected information of motor vehicles driving ahead.
