[origin: EP2174700A1] Absorbent, preferably for the selective absorption of carbon dioxide from a flue gas of a combustor, comprises a mixture of amino acid salt and a free amino acid. An independent claim is also included for preparing the absorbent comprising (a) adding an equimolar base to the amino acid to completely convert the amino acid into amino acid salt, and (b) additionally adding amino acid to prepare a mixture of amino acid salt and free amino acid, so that the amino acid salt and the free amino acid are present in a coexistent manner.
