[origin: WO2010051804A1] The present invention relates to a mask (1, 10) for kinetic cold gas compacting, comprising a body (2) for covering a region not to be coated of a substrate (20) to be coated having a working side (7, 17) exposed to the coating substance, wherein at least the working side (7, 17) has a hardness that is designed such that no plastic deformation of the working side (7, 17) takes place when the coating particles strike, or the working side (7, 17) or the entire mask (1, 10) is made of a case-hardened or nitrogen case-hardened steel or of a hard material and/or comprises a hard material. In addition, the present invention relates to a corresponding method using such a mask (1, 10).
