[origin: WO2010054995A1] The invention relates to a steam iron comprising a water tank (30), which can be hydraulically connected to a steam chamber (40) through an inlet port (50), a movable control rod (60) for adjusting the water amount that flows from the water tank (30) through the inlet port (50) into the steam chamber (40), and a rod control device (70) that can be actuated by a user. The rod control device (70) has an elastic element (72) that moves the movable control rod (60) into a closed position (A), wherein the water flow through the inlet port (50) is blocked, and an actuator (74) that can be actuated by the user in order to move the movable control rod (60) into an open position (B, B'), which permits the water flow from the water tank (30) through the inlet port (50) into the steam chamber (40), and in order to hold the movable control rod in the open position (B, B') while the actuator is actuated by the user.
