[origin: EP2180104A1] The present invention provides an insulated building wall comprising an external thermal insulation composite system (ETICS) and a building wall, wherein the ETICS is affixed to the building wall, the ETICS comprising: (i) an insulation sub-system, said insulation sub-system being either (a) an insulation sub-system comprising at least a first insulating plate which contains from 20 to 90 wt % aerogel and at least a second insulating plate which contains mineral wool, or (b) an insulation sub-system comprising at least one composite insulating plate containing mineral wool and from 20 to 90 wt % aerogel, and (ii) at least one mechanical fastener for fastening the at least one insulating plate to the building wall, and (iii) an outer layer. A method of providing an external thermal insulation composite system (ETICS) affixed to a building wall and a use of aerogel in an external thermal insulation composite system (ETICS) are also provided.
