Abstract (en)

[origin: WO2010043785A1] According to the invention, the adsorption properties of the adsorbent product, containing a porous mineral such as, in particular, pumice, result from the carbon formed on the walls of the pores of said mineral by cracking an organic product, such as sugar or sludge from wastewater treatment plants, which has been previously impregnated in the pores of said mineral, the carbon thus formed making the product hydrophobic. After said product absorbs hydrocarbon pollutants, the impregnated mineral is heated in a thermal processing unit in the absence of oxygen up to a temperature sufficient for evaporating the hydrocarbons and/or for decomposing the organic product or the hydrocarbon molecules by cracking, and to form or regenerate the carbon deposit. The invention can be used in the production or the recycling of an adsorbent product for pollutant removal, in particular on water surfaces or rivers polluted by hydrocarbons.
