[origin: CA2742169A1] The invention relates to a device (1) for forming a tube (3) from a material web (2), in particular a film, which can be used for example for wrapping articles (4) conveyed in a series one behind the other, and relates to a corresponding operating method. The device comprises a bearing device (10) for a roll of material web (5), a deflecting device (100) for the material web (2) and a drawing device (20), which is capable of moving the material web (2) through the deflecting device (100). In the deflecting device (100), at least one first deflecting edge (A) and one second deflecting edge (B) are formed, wherein the first deflecting edge (A) is shaped for deflecting the material web (2) substantially transversely in relation to the longitudinal direction (L) of the material web (2) and wherein the at least one second deflecting edge (B) is formed for folding the material web (2) along at least one line (2e) running in the longitudinal direction, in that it is oriented at a first angle (a) in relation to the longitudinal direction (L) and is arranged downstream of the first deflecting edge (A). According to the invention, the first deflecting edge (A) comprises straight portions and has in particular a first straight portion (A.1) and at least one second straight portion (A.2), which together form a second angle (ß). The straight portions achieve the build-up of a homogeneous tensile stress, and so creasing in the material web (2) is avoided and the quality of the tube is improved.
