[origin: WO2010057693A1] The present invention relates to the locating of devices installed in a building. For this purpose, the devices are provided with RFID tags, on which data pertaining to the devices are stored and which emit only in a predetermined range. A locating apparatus comprises: a receiver module for receiving data pertaining to a device from an RFID tag, wherein the RFID tag is attached to the device and the device is installed in a room in the building; a position data capture module for capturing the position of the device in the room; and a data management module for identifying the position of the device as at least one coordinate of a coordinate system and for storing the position thereby identified with the data pertaining to the device. The coordinate system is based on at least one area of the room. The present invention allows the fast, flexible and comprehensive locating of devices installed in a building, and may be used, for example, with respect to the installation, service and maintenance of such devices.
