[origin: EP2355274A1] The element (1) has a state display (5) comprising a display element (4) for displaying a state of the element. An endothermic material (6) e.g. intumescent material, is in thermal contact with an overvoltage limiting component (3) e.g. varistor, and in mechanical contact with the display element, where the material is thermally activated. Expansion of the endothermic material produces a change in position of the display element when the limiting component is heated above a certain minimum temperature. Magnitude of the position change is a measure for heating of the limiting component.
