[origin: DE102008063136A1] The method involves separating an electrical system (4) of a vehicle by thermal or electrically overloading of a lithium ion battery (1), where parameters of the lithium ion battery are automatically monitored by battery electronics (2). A current value, a voltage level, a temperature level or a cell internal pressure is determined as parameters of the lithium ion battery. An independent claim is included for a device for protecting lithium ion battery in a vehicle.
