[origin: WO2010060606A1] The invention relates to a flue gas scrubbing device in a chimney connected to a fireplace, wherein the flue gas channel (1) of the chimney has a bypass (3), containing a flue gas filter (5) and a fan (6), which delivers the flue gas to be scrubbed through the bypass (3) and the flue gas filter (5). In order to ensure freer venting of the flue gases in such a flue gas scrubbing device, even if the bypass becomes impassible due to failure of the fan or clogging of the filter, the invention proposes that the flue gas channel (1) is free of cutoff and throttle elements in the area (1b) bridged by the bypass (3) and has a flow cross-section that always remains free, which corresponds at least to the free cross-section of the flue gas channel (1) upstream and downstream of the bypass (3), and the fan (6) is designed and can be controlled such that it delivers at least as much flue gas through the bypass (3) and the flue gas filter (5) as that flowing in from the fireplace.
