Abstract (en)

[origin: GB2466808A] A manually operated dispenser includes an elongate cutter blade 26 to sever lengths of material from a web (22 fig 1) wound on a roll (12 fig 1), two resiliently compressible jaw elements 32, 34 of hollow cross section which initially shield the cutter blade 26 and cooperate with movable upper jaw elements 50, 52 to grip the sheet material, further downward movement of the upper jaw elements 50, 52 compressing jaw elements 32, 34 so that the sheet material is stretched and pulled over the blade 26 to sever a length of sheet material. The cutter blade 26 may remain stationary during cutting. Jaw elements 32, 34 may be plastic extrusions of uniform cross section, each made up of four walls 38, 49, 42 and 44, of which one, 49, buckles to form a flexural spring. Jaws 32, 34 may further be mounted in channels on either side of the cutter blade 26. The material may be cling film, aluminium foil, baking paper or baking parchment used for catering or in food stores.
