Baumaschine zum Bearbeiten einer Fahrbahnoberfläche, insbesondere Straßenfräse, umfassend eine horizontal rotierbare Fräswalze, eine Antriebseinrichtung mit einem Antrieb und einem Antriebsgetriebe, wobei das Antriebsgetriebe in der Weise ausgebildet ist, dass es eine Antriebskraft vom Antrieb auf die Fräswalze überträgt, einen Fräswalzenkasten wobei der Antrieb außerhalb des Fräswalzenkastens angeordnet ist und das Antriebsgetriebe durch eine der Stirnseite der Fräswalze zugewandte Seitenwand des Fräswalzenkastens zur Fräswalze geführt ist und ein relativ zum Fräswalzenkasten höhenverstellbares Seitenschild, das auf der Seite des Fräswalzenkastens angeordnet ist, auf der das Antriebsgetriebe durch die Seitenwand des Fräswalzenkastens hindurch geführt ist.
