[origin: WO2010072937A1] The invention relates to a postal sorting machine including an automatic feeding station (8) with an unstacking device (2), a manual feeding station (9) and a sorting conveyor for moving the postal items in series one after the other in a conveying direction (31). The automatic feeding station is adapted for automatically feeding postal items to the conveyor from a stack of postal items, while the manual feeding station (9) is adapted for receiving the individually inserted postal items and placing same in the conveyor. The manual feeding station (9) includes a protection hood forming a tunnel above the conveyor and an insertion slot (26) in the protection hood, through which a postal item can be inserted into the tunnel, said slot being vertically aligned with a funnel-shaped gap (34) designed for receiving and handling an item in the conveyor.
