[origin: EP2392731A2] The road construction machine (1), particularly a road milling machine, comprises a machine frame (2) and a chassis (4) for carrying the machine frame at a level. The chassis is moved on a floor surface (6) in a drive direction (9), where the chassis has a height adjustment device (8). A transmitter (15) is firmly arranged on the machine frame, where a receiver (16) is arranged parallel to the machine frame in a moving manner along the momentary reference point on the machine frame. An independent claim is also included for a method for controlling the distance of a machine frame on a ground surface.
