The reading device (12) has an on-board-diagnostic-connecter (6) which is provided for insertion in a designated on-board-diagnostic-bushing (4) of a motor vehicle (2) as part of an outer contour of the reading device. The reading device is connectable with the external auxiliary module (26) by a plug-in connector (20). The plug-in connector is a Universal serial busplug-in connector. Eine Auslesevorrichtung (12) zum Auslesen von Daten aus einem Datenspeicher eines Kraftfahrzeugs (2) ist dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass ein On-Board-Diagnose-Stecker (6) zum Einstecken in eine dafür vorgesehene On-Board-Diagnose-Buchse (4) des Kraftfahrzeugs (2) als Teil einer Außenkontur der Auslesevorrichtung (12) vorgesehen ist und die Auslesevorrichtung (12) über wenigstens eine Steckverbindung (20) mit einem externen Zusatzmodul (26) verbindbar ist.
