The device has two rotating lasers (3, 4) for producing rotary light beams (3a, 4a) and separated from each other and from a workpiece i.e. vibration plate (1). A light receiver (5) temporarily receives the beams. An evaluation device (7) determines a current position of the receiver and the workpiece based on well-known places e.g. edge or outer side, of a predetermined area (2), and is coupled with the rotating lasers and the receiver. The rotating lasers are arranged at the places, where the receiver receives the beams from the rotating lasers at a time point. An independent claim is also included for a method for determining a position of a workpiece in a predetermined area.

Eine Vorrichtung zum Bestimmen der Position eines Arbeitsgeräts (1) in einem vorgegebenen Gebiet (2) weist wenigstens zwei getrennt von dem Arbeitsgerät (1) und getrennt voneinander an jeweils einem bekannten Ort anordenbare Rotationslaser (3, 4) zum Erzeugen jeweils eines um eine Vertikalachse rotierenden Lichtstrahls auf. An dem Arbeitsgerät (1) ist eine Lichtempfangseinrichtung (5) zum temporären Empfangen der Lichtstrahlen vorgesehen. Mit den Rotationslasern (3, 4) und der Lichtempfangseinrichtung (5) ist eine Auswerteeinrichtung (7) gekoppelt, mit der die aktuelle Position der Lichtempfangseinrichtung (5) und damit des Arbeitsgeräts (1) bestimmbar ist, und zwar aufgrund der bekannten Orte, an denen die Rotationslaser (3, 4) angeordnet sind, und aufgrund der Zeitpunkte, zu denen die Lichtempfangseinrichtung (5) jeweils die Lichtstrahlen von den Rotationslasern (3,4) empfängt.
