[origin: EP2397316A2] The press (1) has a lateral precompressor (2) displaceably supported along a plane (21), and a feed plunger (4) displaceably supported perpendicular to the precompressor under a pivoted press cover (3). A downholder (5) is floatingly arranged in a displacement direction of the plunger. A pressing chamber (7) is defined by a maximum deflection position of the precompressor, a deflection position of the press cover, and initial positions of the respective plunger and downholder. The pressing chamber is formed with a recessed base surface relative to the plane.
