Abstract (en)
[origin: CA2754620A1] A driving aid for a motor vehicle on a smooth carriageway has an auxiliary wheel (2) which is provided with frictional elements and can be shifted between an inoperative position at a distance from the carriageway (9) and an operative position with frictional contact with the carriageway (9) and with an operative connection to an associated tyre (4) of the motor vehicle. The tread of the auxiliary wheel (2) has projecting spikes (14). The auxiliary wheel (2) is in operative connection to a driving roller (12) which, in the operative position of the auxiliary wheel (2), can be pressed against a tread (11) of the associated tyre (4). During operation, the driving roller (12) is in operative connection with a cleaning device. The auxiliary wheel (2) can be shifted between the inoperative position and the operative position by means of a hydraulic or pneumatic actuating device (18). Auxiliary wheels (2) arranged on two opposite tyres (4) can be jointly actuated by means of a joint hydraulic or pneumatic actuating device (18). The driving aid (1) has guide elements (15) engaging laterally around the associated tyre (4) in order to guide the auxiliary wheel (2) relative to the associated tyre (4). The guide elements (15) have guide balls (16) mounted in a freely rotatable manner.
