[origin: WO2010094387A1] The invention relates to a method for operating a metering device (2) for dispensing at least one detergent and/or cleaning agent preparation (40) into the interior of the domestic appliance (38), the metering device being detachably connected to the domestic appliance (38). The metering device (2) comprises a control unit in which at least one metering program is stored. The control unit interacts with at least one actuator mounted in the metering unit (2) in such a manner that the metering device (2) can release the detergent and/or cleaning agent preparation into the interior of the domestic appliance. The metering device (2) comprises at least one receiving unit for signals (88, 90) which are emitted by at least one transmitter unit (87) arranged in the domestic appliance (38) and at least part of said signals are converted to control commands for the actuators of the metering device (2) in the control unit on the metering device side. The reception of the signals (88, 90) is monitored by the control unit on the metering device side and if the signals (88, 90) are not received in the metering device (2), a metering program from the control unit of the metering device (2) is activated.
