Abstract (en)

[origin: WO2010130292A1] The invention relates to an LCD projector having a high-pressure discharge lamp, wherein the luminous intensity of the lamp is adapted to the average brightness of the image during projection, in order to thereby improve the contrast of the projection. The luminous intensity of the lamp has previously not been adjustable to a desirable degree. Reducing the luminous intensity of the lamp during projection of a dark image, for example, is hindered by the fact that the lamp must be protected against severe cooling. According to the invention, the temperature of the lamp is monitored, and the luminous intensity of the lamp is increased if the lamp becomes too cold. The invention is particularly suitable for projecting image sequences of a movie.
