The device has a feeder (12) and a transporting unit (14) that includes a set of transporting elements (54, 56) that is parallely arranged in transporting direction. The transporting elements are attached to side edges (47, 49) of flat products (18) e.g. envelope, so that the flat products are gripped by the transporting elements and transported in the transporting direction. Another set of transporting elements (64, 66) is arranged parallel to the transporting direction and attached to side edges of the flat products, so that the flat products are transported in the transporting direction. An independent claim is also included for a method for transporting flat products e.g. envelope.

Vorrichtung und Verfahren zum Transportieren von flächigen Produkten (18), insbesondere Briefkuverts (20-28), mit zumindest einer Zuführung (12) und einer ersten Transporteinheit (14), die zumindest zwei Transportelemente (54, 56) aufweist, die parallel zur Transportrichtung (52) angeordnet sind und an zueinander gegenüberliegende Seitenkanten (19, 19') der flächigen Produkte (18) anlegbar sind, so dass die flächigen Produkte (18) durch die Transportelemente (54, 56) ergreifbar und stehend in der Transportrichtung (52) transportierbar sind. Dabei werden die flächigen Produkte (18) in die erste Transporteinheit (14) aufgenommen, innerhalb dieser in der Transportrichtung (52) transportiert und dabei von den Transportelementen (54, 56) an den zueinander gegenüberliegenden Seitenkanten (19, 19') separat tragend gehalten und stehend transportiert.
