[origin: EP2399853A2] The device has a feeder (12) and a transporting unit (14) that includes a set of transporting elements (54, 56) that is parallely arranged in transporting direction. The transporting elements are attached to side edges (47, 49) of flat products (18) e.g. envelope, so that the flat products are gripped by the transporting elements and transported in the transporting direction. Another set of transporting elements (64, 66) is arranged parallel to the transporting direction and attached to side edges of the flat products, so that the flat products are transported in the transporting direction. An independent claim is also included for a method for transporting flat products e.g. envelope.
