[origin: EP2404703A1] The device (10) has energy storages (42, 44) comprising gaseous medium that supports oscillating movement and provides gas pressure-dependent operating forces (76, 78). Movement of an oscillation unit (16) supports in traveling direction (28). A setting unit (86) sets gas pressure, and a controlling-or regulating unit (100) controls or regulates the setting unit. The controlling-or regulating unit provides a manipulated variable (108) that is determined based on mass of the oscillation unit, oscillation amplitude and/or an oscillation frequency. An independent claim is also included for a method for machining a workpiece.
