[origin: WO2010108610A1] The invention relates to a method for discontinuously emptying a container (4) in which liquid collects. The container (4) is emptied by an emptying means (valve 5). During this process, the container (4) must never be completely emptied and must never overflow. The container (4) contains a sensor (7) that detects a first state wherein there is liquid in a pre-determined area, and a second state wherein there is no liquid in the pre-determined area. According to the invention, the emptying means (valve 5) is actuated as soon as the sensor (7) detects the first state, and the emptying means (valve 5) is stopped as soon as the sensor (7) detects the second state.
