[origin: EP2418150A1] The method involves forming a packing trough (5) in a packing foil (4) and filling the trough with a product (7) i.e. food, before closing the trough with an upper foil (9). Inner and/or outer sides of the trough are coated with a barrier layer by a plasma coating after forming the trough and before filling the trough with the product. The outer side of the trough and/or an outer side of the upper foil are coated with the barrier layer after closing the trough with the upper foil. Plasma is produced in a packaging machine (1) that is utilized for manufacturing a package. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a thermoforming machine including a forming station (2) a package including a packing trough.
