[origin: WO2010118828A1] The invention relates to a support device (2) which can be adjusted by an electric motor for the cushioning arrangement of an item of furniture for sitting or lying on. Said support device comprises a first support part (4) and a second support part (6) which can pivot about a pivotable axis (10), and a third support part (8) is arranged between said two other parts. Said support device (2) also comprises an electric motor drive comprising an adjusting element which can be connected in a force transmitting manner to the second support part (6) by an actuation element (26) used to pivot said second support part. According to the invention, said actuation element (26) is rod-shaped and can be guided into a guide (28), which is in or on the third support part (8), such that it can be displaced in a linear manner by means of the adjusting element, and said actuation element (26) engages with the second support part (6) in a manner eccentric to the pivotable axis (10) for pivoting the second support part (6).
