[origin: WO2010121804A1] The present invention relates to a method for tanning animal skins, comprising the following steps: - Staining and pickling the animal skin in an aqueous solution, - reducing the liquid content of the animal skin, - substituting at least part of the liquid quantity removed in the previous step from the animal skin by a tanning solution that contains the tanning agent to be absorbed by the animal skin in a quantity that equals an excess of no more than 80%, and - treating the animal skin comprising the tanning solution with compressed gas in a pressure container for a time period of at least 15 minutes. A method of said kind is largely free of waste water, optionally even completely free of waste water, and produces high-quality tanned leathers or furs with short treatment times.
