[origin: EP2423372A2] The device i.e. washing machine (1), has a drum (3) rotatably supported around a horizontal rotational axis for holding laundry items. A detergent container (6) is arranged at a front-sided edge bar of the drum defining a feed opening (4) of the drum. A sleeve is arranged between the drum and an outer housing (2). A sleeve lip of the sleeve defined in its position is variable. The position is changed using a hook depending on position change of the edge bar in axial and/or radial directions. The hook is rigidly coupled with a bearing, a bearing seat and a carrier of the drum. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a household device for caring items of laundry.
