[origin: WO2010125286A1] The invention relates to a method for detecting an opened postal item such as an envelope-free magazine, that comprises passing the item (3) on the edge thereof into a first conveyor (2A) adapted for moving the item (3) by clamping while holding it tight on substantially the entire height of the item, and into a second conveyor (2B) adapted for moving the item (3) by clamping while leaving the upper end (3B) of the item free to open as a fan. Two measurements of the thickness of the item (3) are carried out respectively when the item is in the first and second conveyor (2A, 2B) in order to determine by differential comparison of the two measurements if the item is an opened item.
