Treating a surface of a substrate comprising a titanium-aluminum alloy for improving the oxidation resistance of the surface at 700-1100[deg] C, comprises treating the surface with fluorine, applying fluorine on the substrate surface and heating the substrate to an activation temperature of 700-1100[deg] C, where the substrate is treated with fluorine and/or boron by forming a fluorine- and boron-containing liquid and/or a fluorine- and boron-containing liquid mixture and applying to the surface of the substrate such that fluorine and boron are enriched in the outer surface zone of the substrate.

Die Behandlung von Legierungen auf der Basis von Titan und Aluminium mit Fluor und Bor gemeinsam kann deren Oxidationsbeständigkeit im Temperaturbereich von 700 °C bis 1100 °C an Luft gegenüber unbehandelten bzw. nur mit Fluor bzw. Bor behandelten TiAl-Legierungen deutlich erhöhen. Die Behandlung kann durch verschiedene Verfahren, z. B. durch Tauchen in HBF 4(liq.) erfolgen. Entgegen dem bisherigen Kenntnisstand, wonach nur die reinen Halogene implantiert werden bzw. die Behandlung nur mit einem Halogen erfolgt, lassen sich durch die Kombination von Fluor und Bor bessere Ergebnisse als bei einer alleinigen Fluorbehandlung erzielen.
