Abstract (en)

[origin: WO2010130674A1] The invention relates to an illumination device (1) for streets, paths and the like, comprising a housing (2) which can be positioned at a distance from an area to be illuminated, wherein at least one lighting module (4, 4') is arranged on a support (15) in the housing, further comprising a number of lighting units (19, 28) having the same light distribution characteristics, each containing a number of lighting elements (16) and lenses (18) which are associated with the lighting elements and are arranged in front of the same in the light-emitting direction for generating a predefined light distribution, wherein different lighting modules (4, 4') comprise at least lighting units having different light distribution characteristics, wherein lighting units that have the same light distribution characteristics and/or different light distribution characteristics have optical axes (20) running parallel to each other, and the at least one lighting unit (19, 28) is designed such that the light distribution characteristics generated thereby have at least one asymmetrical section relative to a central plane (M) of the lighting unit.
