[origin: WO2010136295A1] The invention relates to a method for preparing a mixture containing water, 3-methyl-1-butene, and at least one other methyl butene. Said method involves the provision of the mixture; the primary distillation of the mixture in order to produce a gaseous primary head product containing methyl butene and water, and a water-free primary sump product containing 3-methyl-1-butene; the condensation of the gaseous primary head product such that a condensate comprising a liquid aqueous phase and a liquid organic phase is produced; the separation of the condensate into a liquid, aqueous phase and a liquid organic phase; the ejection of the liquid aqueous phase; the reintroduction of the organic phase into the primary distillation process; and finally the secondary distillation of the water-free primary sump product of the primary distillation, such that a secondary head product consisting of 3-methyl-1-butene and a secondary sump product is produced. The secondary head product produced has a purity that enables it to be used directly as a monomer or comonomer for producing polymers or copolymers.
