[origin: EP2436294A2] The cleaner (1) has a dust chamber (6) for receiving a replaceable filter bag (7) and a dust collection container (8), and a sensor system (11) for detecting a variable characterizing an air flow rate. An electronic unit (12) introduces a failure mode, and a fan motor (10) is operated with reduced power in the failure mode when the air flow rate continuously lies below a predeterminable flow rate limit value for a predetermined time period. The sensor system comprises an analog or digital pressure sensor (13) to detect low pressure in the dust chamber. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a vacuum cleaner.
