[origin: WO2010145635A1] The invention relates to manhole covers which are arranged in the traffic area and can be driven over by vehicles. The problem addressed by the invention is to avoid, or at least to considerably reduce, rattling noises when vehicles drive over manhole covers. At a manhole cover of this type, a cover element, sitting on a radially outer, horizontally oriented flange, can be inserted into a frame element. At least one elastically deformable insert element having a circular, partially circular, triangular, L-shaped, rectangular or trapezoidal cross section or a combination of said cross-sectional shapes is fastened to the flange or the cover element in a form-fitting and/or frictional manner such that a region of the insert element is present between the supporting surface of the cover element and the supporting surface of the flange, keeping said supporting surfaces at a distance from each other in the unloaded state. The insert element bears with the radially inner side thereof at least in regions against the cover element and with the radially outer side thereof at least in regions against the frame element and therefore the frame element and cover element can be kept in a manner fixed against horizontal displacement.
