[origin: WO2010149338A1] The invention relates to a chainsaw having a guide bar (2), a drive pinion (4) associated with a drive (1), and a cutting chain (31) running over the guide bar (2) and the drive pinion (4), that can be tensioned and detensioned by a relative displacement of the guide bar (2) or a part of the guide bar (10), particularly the bar tip (10a) disposed at the end of a slider (10), and the drive pinion (4), wherein according to the invention a sensor element (30, 40) for capturing a change in the chain tension is disposed between the drive pinion (3) and the guide bar (2), preferably in the region of the chain (31) departing from the drive pinion (4), and a continuously operating adjusting unit (3) is provided for generating the relative displacement independently of the load on the chain (31) on the basis of the change in chain tension.
