According to the invention, the input/output unit (10) comprises an adapter module (12) having current connections (15), wherein at least one sensor providing a current signal as a measurement signal can be connected to the current connections (15) of the adapter module (12), and wherein the current connections (15) of the adapter module (12) can be contacted by means of voltage connections (14) of the base module (11).
