Method and system (200) for providing information assisting a driver of a vehicle (1) which is equipped with a navigation system (2), - Providing real-time image information (I1) to a remote system (100), said real-time image information (I1) having been obtained from at least one road-side camera (C1), - Displaying an object (3) on a display (4) of said navigation system (2) which represents at least one road-side camera (C1), - selecting a corresponding road-side camera (C1) using a user interface of said navigation system (2), - transmitting image information (12) based on said real-time image information (I1) provided by the corresponding road-side camera (C1) which has been selected, from said remote system (100) to said navigation system (2), displaying an image (13) based on said image information (12) on said display (4) in order to provide visual information of said specific section of a route (R1).
