[origin: WO2011000885A1] The invention relates to a method for producing a photocatalyst P comprising a substrate that is coated with at least one photocatalytically active metal oxide and at least one co-catalyst. The method according to the invention comprises the following steps: (A) electrochemically treating the at least one substrate in an electrolyte which contains at least one precursor compound of the at least one photocatalytically active metal oxide to obtain a substrate that is coated with at least one photocatalytically active metal oxide and (B) photochemically treating the substrate that is coated with at least one photocatalytically active metal oxide in another electrolyte which contains at least one precursor compound of the at least one co-catalyst to obtain the photocatalyst P.
