The adjuster (2) has a control valve (18) comprising a pressurizing agent-port (P) for supplying pressurizing agent and a tank-port (T) for conveying the pressurizing agent. A pressure-controlled positioning valve (38) is connected with a control chamber pair (4), which comprises smaller and larger control chambers (A, B). The positioning valve is formed in such a manner that the smaller control chamber is connected with a supply line (56) and the larger control chamber is connected with a drain outlet (58) at an unenergized basic position (19a) of the control valve.

Um den Aufwand beim Verriegeln eines Nockenwellenverstellers (2) beim Abschalten des Motors zu reduzieren, umfasst der Nockenwellenversteller (2) neben einem Steuerventil (18) auch mindestens ein druckgesteuertes Positionierungsventil (38), welches mit einem Steuerkammerpaar (4) umfassend zwei Steuerkammern (A, B) verbunden ist und welches derart ausgebildet ist, dass bei einer unbestromten Basisstellung (19a) des Steuerventils (18) zum Einstellen einer Mittenposition (36) die kleinere Steuerkammer (A, B) mit einer Zufuhrleitung (56, 62) und die größere Steuerkammer (A, B) mit einer Abfuhrleitung (58, 64) verbunden ist.
